London 2012 organisers have released details of over 1,000 communities along the route of the torch relay.
Leader of East Ayrshire Council, Councillor Douglas Reid said: “The Torch visit will provide an extraordinary opportunity for East Ayrshire residents to see the Olympic Flame and witness the spectacle of the Olympic Torch Relay. It will provide a chance for communities to welcome the flame and also support members of the community who have been chosen to run with it. I would encourage everyone to embrace the Olympic spirit and come out to mark the countdown to the start of the Games.”
At the same time as the route announcement, the 'Local Leaders' initiative was launched - an invitation to people to take the 2012 Games into their community and create their own celebrations next year, for the Olympic Torch Relay and other key moments during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
