Increase in allotment requests sparks council's interest
30 September, 2010It seems residents of the area are becoming budding Jamie Olivers and realising the benefits of having green fingers, as the demand for allotments has rapidly increased.
The amount of requests East Ayrshire Council has received for allotments has been that high that they are looking at the new possibilities across the area.
At present the only allotments are at Kilmarnock's Lower Mill Road and the waiting list is so extensive that you need to join the queue at a young enough age to even get a look in for when you're older.
In order for the council to gauge interest the community council has been asked to submit numbers to the council to look at. If you are interested please call either Frances Bonar on 01563 574895, Anne Quig on 01563 539262 or Janet Stevenson on 01563 539213.
What do you think, should the council support a project to find new allotment sites and encourage healthy living? Share your views on s1kilmaurs.
